Virus library

An analysis of the technologies used by cybercriminals allows us to draw conclusions about the virus industry’s possible vectors of development and more effectively confront future threats. You, too, can learn what actions various malicious programs take in infected systems and how to withstand them.

Program.Reptilicus in virus library:

Program.Reptilicus is a family of applications designed to control Android devices and monitor the activity of their owners. These apps are not malicious themselves but can be used for cyber espionage and illegal collection of confidential information. Depending on their version and modification, apps of the Program.Reptilicus family are capable of the following:

  • intercepting and reading the SMS;
  • collecting the information about phone calls;
  • phone calls recording;
  • device location tracking;
  • recording the surroundings using the device microphone;
  • accessing user’s photos and other files;
  • accessing the phone book;
  • intercepting the contents of the notifications;
  • recording the information entered on the keyboard (a keylogger functionality);
  • taking screenshots.

Moreover, if root access is available, they are also capable of:

  • moving itself to the system folder;
  • accessing the conversations in popular messaging apps, such as Skype, Telegram, WhatsApp, "ВКонтакте" (VK), "Одноклассники" (OK), Facebook, Viber, Instagram and others;
  • accessing browser history;
  • remote device blocking and rebooting;
  • preventing the installation of other software.

Vulnerabilities for Android

According to statistics, every fifth program for Android contains a vulnerability (or, in other words, a "loophole") that lets cybercriminals successfully introduce Trojans onto mobile devices and manipulate them into doing whatever actions they need them to.

Dr.Web Security Auditor for Android diagnoses and analyses a mobile device’s security and offers solutions to address security problems and vulnerabilities.
