Trojan apps from the Trojan.Hosts family modify the hosts file located in the Windows system directory. This file is responsible for converting website DNS hostnames to their network IP addresses. As a result, when an attempt is made to visit one of the websites listed in such a file, the browser will automatically be redirected to a webpage created by malicious actors.
