The Cybercriminal World and Russia. 2011 Virus Activity Overview

The Russian anti-virus vendor Doctor Web is pleased to present an overview of the virus events of 2011. One of the past year’s key trends was a significant increase in threats to the Android mobile platform, which is not surprising: the ability to send paid SMS messages without users' knowledge is excellent bait for virus writers. Fraudulent schemes targeting social network users are also being improved most actively. Unfortunately, this trend is going to be even more relevant in 2012. Among threats to desktop system platforms are new versions of extortion programs of the Trojan.Winlock family, MBR lockers and Trojan encoders. The number of new Internet banking malware has dramatically increased.
